Advice needed regarding rent increase! [letting agent] [housemates]

Q: A room in a shared house was advertised for £ 540 which my eye fell. Although my budget at the top of the room was very nice and so were the so I decided to go for. The advertisement was made by the . I contacted the leasing company and a completed application form straight away, so they can check references, I also detail the rent on the form. This was done three weeks before I was due to close on the lease. The lease is due to start this week – April 26. On Friday (20th) I found my new the owner had decided to put up the rent for the new contract (because they only found them to sign the new contract)! I was / am against upset if I not sure I can pay the new rent. The leasing agent has had no contact at all. I tried calling them yesterday, but the guy I talk to is sick. Unfortunatley, I moved in last week and paid my deposit to move the man and the rent until April 26. Since I have not signed anything, I suppose I could move. Im just very angry with the rental agent if I do not think they handled it very well and I thought that was what they were paid to .?

If do the rental agent to tell the landlord about the move and his roommate decided to keep the rent for the same ad, but then increased when signature contract is due – is this allowed?

I know I need some answers from the agent to get, but thought I d see what other people think of my situation!

Thanks for reading!

A:If you haven't signed yet you are in a good position to back out but the fact that you have paid your rent and deposit does theoritically mean that you have agreed to the terms of the lease. It's a bit naughty of them to put the rent up as you just about to 'sign up' and I would definitely tackle them about this immediately.

Keep a copy of the advert stating the rent – it's good ammunition. This is not right.

A:Contact shelter immediately – http://england.shelter.org.uk/advice/index.cfm . The telephone number is on their website.

They do have regional pages but I'm in England so automatically get the english pages.
