House Buying maternity leave [housebuying] [buying a new home]

Q: I am looking for some advice on buying a new house, while my wife was on unpaid maternity leave. Our situation is that my wife back to work four days a week can afford to just over £ 230k loan based on 4x income. Our current house should sell for around £ 150K, and we live in Glasgow, so it offers more than system.

My xxx wife will be out on unpaid maternity leave until the beginning of August and we plan for our house on the market placed at the end of June. Can we offer on another house and setting of the mortgage once my wife returns to work? Obviously, we scale the time to explain to the potential seller of our new house, but it is possible to agree to buy, wait until my wife started her new job to arrange the mortgage, or will the mortgage companies are in principle based our word that they back to work?

Any advice appreciated!

C

A:Thank for the reply. I'll go and give an advisor a call.

Cheers,

Chris

A:Presumably your wife is still employed by her employer, so will be returning to the same job? If so, the lender will do the checks with her employer, who will be able to confirm the date she's returning and her revised 4-day week salary.

I'd go see a mortgage advisor – but I can't see any problems with applying for the mortgage before your wife returns to work.

I'm no expert though – so others may know more….
