Not exactly a crash yet but combined with news of the UK's premier 'sub-prime' lender getting into financial trouble, I think it's a good indicator of what will be happening in the housing market in the coming months and years.
No. What is cruel is an entire generation priced out of owning their own house by the avarice of speculators who aim to wax fat from those who have sold their soul to the company mortgage store.
What a nasty post.
How is it "laughing at others' misfortunes" to wish that for once, things would be just and fair and those who were careful with their money and saved up to buy what they have, actually gained something for their prudence?
My feelings are the same as the previous poster. If you borrow lots of money recklessly and for no good reason other than to "get more things", without saving and without thinking about how to pay it back, and you get into trouble, there should be consequences for such irresponsible behaviour. I don't wish it on anyone and nor do I wish anyone to suffer, but I do believe that the system should be fair.
Sorry, the pearly gates are closed for demolition. St Peter got a great offer from a developer and they're putting up some new-builds on the land. They're making a killing, it's really sought after – good schools, plenty of green space. You should book a viewing. Prices are only going to go up.
As for the stoning and hell aspect – well, someone has to rent in Hackney…
I might be a hopeless optimist, but I do still dream of the day the responsible and the prudent will be rewarded and the irresponsible and the greedy will be punished.
It would make a nice change now wouldnt it?
That's a bit cruel. I'd love to see lower prices too (and believe that we will) but I'm not cheering on the misery for tens of thousands of people who got suckered into the housing market bubble in the last couple of years when it went really ballistic.
Vested Interests have been at work getting people to buy into the housing bubble and many people wanted nothing more than to get a foothold on the housing ladder before it became absolutely unaffordable.
I do strongly believe in personal responsibility but how many young couples or young people generally will have been told by their parents and peers that they should get on the housing ladder ASAP .. house prices only ever go up … you should get in for the long haul etc. etc.
Now we're looking at ever higher mortgage rates and the beginning of price drops. Those who've been 'pimping' the market should be ashamed of themselves.
Also worth noting is the fact that we are probably heading for a nasty recession combined with housing market slump and most likely stock market slump – a perfect financial storm. It won't do us any good if houses are cheap when we don't have a job or look like we might be losing it!
Nelly read his post again
wtf are you on about?
No ones laughing at anyone they just fancy a cheap house rather than an expensive one.
The average cost of buying a house has gone up 300% of the last ten years, so the average cost of a mortgage has gone up the same.
Who has benefitted the most out of this?………… banks
when mainstream media start reporting things like this it can only accelerate things.
Sentiment has definitely changed over recent weeks and all the requirements for a crash are slowly falling into place.
Very true but you must feel sorry for the people who were convinced by the big lenders to borrow way beyond their means.
It would not surprise me if they have done it on purpose so that they can increase their property portfollio
Gosh, fancy that! And I havent got stoned since I was a teenager
