Housing benefits: rent proper vaccination to parents [housing benefit] [s council]

Q: Dear all,

four years ago I bought my council house mother. Because I bought both our names, I qualified for a substantial discount. This meant that not only the house but the mortgage is in both our names.

HOWEVER – I pay the mortgage, rates and insurance on the ground. My mother lives there rent-free.

Three years ago I bought my own house, and since then has been paying the mortgage, rates, insurance on my house and house.

While my mother is my mothers house was owned by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, had paid her rent through .

I would not dream of my mother asking me to pay her rent form meager income (Pension Credit, I think it is), but I wondered whether they could apply again for the Rates Relief u0026 me some to pay rent (and pay its own fees) and make the financial burden on me a little easier.

All advice, suggestions etc. strong appreciated.

Gooner Pete

A:hi, If your mother is still a joint owner then she will not be able to claim HB. Even is she is not it is unlikely that HB will pay as I think there are rules against paying HB to a relative…you should get this checked by a welfare advisor. She would be entitiled to council tax benefit (depending on her income) whether she is an owner or a tenant – if she is a joint owner with you then she may only be entitled to it on her 'half' of the council tax bills.
