Q:Quick question which I'm sure has probably got a simple answer.
Hopefully selling our house soon and have decided to go with the estate agents recommended solicitor, but they are the other side of the country.
My question is, how do we sign contracts when we can't get to their office?
Do they send them to the estate agents and we sign with them being witness?
Is this going to slow the whole process up?
New to all this house buying/selling lark and getting stressed already!
that's one thing off my mind!
It won't hold anything up because you generally sign contracts some time before you actually exchange.
They will post you the legal documents in advance and you can sign them in front of a witness (basically anyone not related to you). I just got my boss and a friend to witness me. You then just send the document back.
Everything else can be sent via e-mail or post such as fixtures and fittings and their report etc.
