Q:I am posting this for a family member who is having problems with the neighbours dogs, as soon as the neighbours leave their house the dogs are barking and howling, fighting between themselves till their owners come home in the evening.
Family member has spoken to neighbours but they have said this isnt happening, (I have actually been there and heard it for myself so I know its going on).
Any ideas what family member can do? They dont want any repercussions but it needs sorting.
The Ultimate Family Organizer!A:The problem isn't the dogs, it's the neighbour. It's irresponsible and cruel to leave pet dogs alone all day, especially if they don't have a really big space to roam in.
The two noisy dogs down our street are owned by people who can't be bothered to get out of bed early in the morning and give their dogs at least a couple of hours good walk, before they go out. Both those dogs are only young (7 months and 18 months). Then when they get in in the evening, the dogs are lucky if they get 30 minutes walk. Why do breeders sell dogs to people who think that the dog having the garden is enough? It is so cruel
Environmental Health are the ones to contact, but you can also get in touch with organisations who take the dogs and put them in better homes.
Global Freedom Family Membership SiteA:There are devices which are supposed to stop dogs barking. The idea is that the device emits an irritating (to the dog) ultrasonic sound when it barks. I have read somewhere that they do work. Here is one I found on the net although I have no idea whether this particular one is any good.

How to Complete a Family Tree: Companion to 6-Generation Family TreeA:It's possible from what you say, that your neighbour really don't know the dogs are doing it… the dogs shut up when they come home.
Borrow a camcorder and leaving it running for a day then give your neighbour the tape… they'll probably be quite shocked.
Discover the Secrets of Family Camping!A:I sympathise with your problem. When I lived with my parents, some people accross the road bought two lovely dogs. Really cute and friendly, but at 7am every morning, all we'd hear is 'yap! yap! yap' as they'd be let out for a bit while the lady of the house packed her car for work. I'm a light sleeper and it used to really wind me up. Just because they were up didn't mean the whole street wanted to be woken by their dogs. I think that in some cases you just have to grin and bear it like we did for a while. My Dad went over and had a go a couple of times (because they were also getting out and chasing our cats and going through our bins – enough is enough) but they weren't actually doing anything illegal as far as I know. And my Dad says the noise has reduced. The least you can do is go to your local authority and find out where you stand.
Instant Member SoftwareA:Playing devils advocate here but what to do you want the neighbours to do about their dogs? I have a dog who is left in the house during the day for between 2-5 hours while I go to work. I know when I am in she barks at practically any noise when I am in so can only assume she barks when I am out and it may annoy the neighbours (although they have never complained yet!). But what am i to do, yes some may say its irresponsible leaving her in the house all day but I have got to work! She is almost ten years old and when we got her our situation was different.
Its not the fact they bark at any noise its the fact that they dont stop barking and making noise all the time their owners are out as soon as they come home to dogs are quiet. They have been spoken to and will not admit there is a problem.
Great (Gr8) family subscriptionA:call the enviromenta health and feel free to retaliate with some metalica turned up to 11 at 3am.

Ulster Ancestry, Ancestral And Family Re.A:The RSPCA wouldn't do much. So long as the dog has shelter and water and isn't a bag of bones they're judged in the eyes of the law to be well cared for I"m afraid.
Definately suggest trying to make some kind of recording, and rather than complaining about the noise they're making perhaps try to appeal to their better nature (if they even have one) by saying that the dogs are sounding distressed. If they still don't believe you, play them the recording, and if they're still not interested report them to the council.
Member FortunesA:I dont understand what you mean about the selling of the house in the evenings to hide ethnicity, please explain?
75% Payout!~ Succession: the Biggest Threat To Your Family BusinessA:It might also be wise to have a diplomatic chat with other neighbours to see if they are also being bothered by the noise. Strength in numbers and all that …
Unfortunately the immediate neighbours are friends of the family with the dogs, i also suggested the taping of noise and leaving it playing when family member went out so people with dogs could here it through their walls, kind of turning the tables if u see what i mean.
A:If your
family member is considering selling the property tell them not to make an official complaint. They would have to disclose their complaint and
noisy neighbours to a potential purchaser. This disclosure will have to be made during the search procedures.
When making an appointment for 'viewers' ensure it's in the evenings when the neighbours are at home and therefore the dogs will be hopefully quiet.
Many properties have been sold on a dark winter evenings to hide a neighbours ethnicity
I know that's not PC but it's fact
A:Your local authority is the way to go. In the meantime, are you able to make a tape recording of the noise (however poor the sound quality) so that there can be no dispute that the noise is constant/ongoing?

A:The fact that the neighbours are denying it is happening just shows that they don't care much for other people either – they sound like the typical "I don't give a ****" sort who is becoming more and more common these days.
This is exactly the sort of people they strike me as, they seem to think family member is making "a mountain out of a molehill". but i will be suggesting the RSPCA and also Enviromental Health to them, many thanks for all replies.

As others have suggested, your best bet if the neighbours don't take action is to contact the RSPCA.
A:I'm sure they were only joking as was I. I'm sure dogs are probably bored locked inside all day
A:Difficult one…. i know as we had dogs which used to do this. It might only have a small temporary effect but how about giving them some bones to chew on??
