Thoughts on buying a house with a large tree nearby? [buying a house] [oak tree]

Q:Am after peoples opinions and experiences of owning a house with a large tree nearby. We have seen a house that we like, ticks most of the boxes but the down side is there is a large oak tree directly behind it. It is not in the garden of the property but just behind the fence in the neighbours garden. I would guess that the tree is about 40 ft from the back of the house, the garden faces north so it will cause less shadow than if it was south facing.

  • Costs associated with buying a home . [outgoings] [buying a house]

Q:Can anyone direct me to some info on costs of buying and then living in a house??

I want to base it on a house worth around £175K but would like to know what it costs ? first in solicitor fees etc and then general monthly outgoings such as council tax, utilities, mortgage etc??

I'm not looking to buy just yet (debt) but would like to get an idea of what it would cost us roughly…

    Thanks in advance

  • Changing the name of a house [anytown] [buying a house]

Q:We are in the process of buying a house which has a Name, but no Street Number (e.g., "Dunroamin, High Street, Anytown&quot. My wife would like to change the house name to one which was used on her parent's house. (e.g., "Sentimental Cottage, High Street, Anytown&quot

The actual name change is easy enough – just tell the council, and as long as it is not (1) obscene or (2) similar to another house nearby, then they will approve it. You can even do it online.

Q:I am in the process of buying a house.

I just like to know whether it is better to add my wife's name as the joint owner.

The mortgage will be entirely in my name though.

Is there any advantage/disadvantage of adding spouse as joint owner?

Except the obvious disadvantage in case of any separation later
