Q:Hi all, just wondering if we are getting 'scammed' or what…. but we are quite interested in renting a flat which is £800. I think the flat was apparently sold just under £300k – although i'm not sure if that is relevant. Phoned in today and the guy wanted £800 + £850 deposit and then £95 from EACH of us (x2)… apparently that is for credit checks and reference checks…
So I mean why do they charge so much for the credit checks? What kind of c
Q:Four of my university classmates, and myself, are looking to rent a house together from September. Our options are really limited only to one letting agent as they have a bit of a monopoly on decent rentals in the area. The problem with them is their fees. Per person:
Arrangement fee: £90.00
Referencing fee: £65.00
This adds up to a total of £775 for the whole house!
I appreciate that they have to carry out credit checks on each of us but we are all si
Q:Hi,
I read on one of martin's links how you can get a fees free whole of market broker to do the work for you to find the best mortgage and then instead of applying for the mortgage with them, go through a cashback site and pocket a couple of hundred pounds.
Morals and ethics aside, if I were to do this would it mean that i would have two credit checks on my file in quick succession…one from the broker and one from myself when i apply via the cashback site? and if
Q:I'm about to rent a new flat and the LL wants to do a credit check on me, which she is charging me £40.
I have no idea if this is normal practice or not. I don't really want to pay more on top of what is already a high monthly rental, and I don't have a dodgy credit history anyway.
I am giving her a deposit of one months rental – £600.
Was wondering if any of these options would be acceptable to a LL, instead of a credit reference check;
Q:I would like some advice please.
I am getting out of my negative equity property and letting it get repossesed, I am trying to rent a home closer to my work, but am not sure as all letting agents are conducting credit checks.
I have default payments on credit cards, but nothing else, my credit rating is poor, will I be able to rent?
Q:My OH and I are looking for a new flat at the moment and have found the perfect place!
The only concern however is that I might not pass the tenancy credit checks. At the moment I am on a temporary (6 month) employment contract that runs out at the end of July. I have a permanent job offer lined up to go to but it won't be officially confirmed until I have passed the security and reference checks for the job which could take several more weeks.
So my worry is that I
Q:I'll try and be brief, Have sold my property to pay off debts, due to complete imminently. Am planning to go into rented but understand credit checks could put off any prospective LL. I have heard that it's a good idea to provide a letter of explaination of my bad credit and steps I have taken to put things right. does anyone have any ideas of how to word such a letter? I will have approx £103,000 in equity from the sale and plan to pay off all my debts which amount to approx £25,000 s
Q:Hello,
My partner and I are waiting for our credit checks to clear before signing a contract for a new tenancy – however due to past bad experiences I was going ot ask the EA to let us know which deposit holding scheme they would be holding our deposit in. I'm anticipating some palm off, but wanted to know whehter I had a right to insist this happened or whether it is at the EA's / LL's discretion?
Thank you!
Q:What exactly do they look for in the credit checks when your going to rent a property. Is is just your credit score they look at or do they actually look to see if theres any adverse credit, missed payments etc.
The reason I ask is I'm looking to rent, it will be through an estate agents. I have no adverse credit, defaults, missed payments etc everything is bang up to date. However my actual credit score itself is very poor down to having a lot of checks done in the last month
Q:I think my credit rating is low because I wasnt on the electrol registry (personal reasons) plus I had an unpaid bill from back in september (only £15) which I'm paying this week, and another bill for the internet from back in september too, will contact them and pay it this week. I registered for the electrol reg yesterday but apparently it takes 28 days to go through.
Will two canceled direct debits (i let them keep my deposit and was on the last month of the contract, b
