Q:Hi All,
I am new to this fab site and can see i will get easily addicted!! Hi to all MSE
My hubby & I moved into a rented house last wednesday through a letting agent. We ahve had nothing but trouble from the start. The house wasnt clean, carpets were dirty, garden was in disrepair etc, etc. I had to spend my days off waiting for their people to come and clean etc. Only following a complaint that all this should have been done before we moved in that they agreed t
Q:Hi all
I recently applied to move into a rented house in Sheffield. The letting agent said there was a fee to pay of £125, which i paid over the phone prior to receiving any documentation.
When i received the application form it said that there was an additional "lease fee" to pay of £94 which i cannot afford to pay, had they mentioned this prior to taking my original fee i would not have signed. They are now saying that the original application fee is non ref
Q:Hi,
I saw a lovely flat to rent tonight – well if the carpets were either replaced and a lick of paint on the walls then yes it would be.
I mentioned this to the letting agent that I would be interested in the flat if the landlord does these things, but do I have the right to haggle before a contract is signed?
Q:I have visited propertyfinder.com and found a couple of houses in my area which I am interested in. The letting agent they are with is a place called KP Residential in Colchester. The link for their website is www.kpresidential.co.uk, now the number on the site when rung claims it doesn't accept incoming calls and I rang a mobile and spoke to a lady who told me that both places accept LHA. Fair enough I thought. I have checked the address and this seems like an unusual address for a let
Q:Hello
I am buying a house with boyfriend and we are ready to exchange. However, I have a flat in West London which I am keeping and renting out but I don't want to complete on new house purchase until I have tenants in my flat (don't want to pay 2 mortgages)
I'm using a letting agent to find me a tenant and then i will take over. The rental value for similar flats in my area is between £800 – £875 pcm. The EA said because my flat is in such good condition and I hav
Q:Hi
My friend is claiming housing benefit, and is looking to move house. She has seen one she likes, but the Letting Agent has said she needs 2 months rent in advance aswell as the deposit, which equates to £2,100 !
The advert on Rightmove only stated one months deposit, but they said it is because she is on benefits. This seems totally unfair, and seems to exclude people on benefits as opposed to helping them. She is able to get the one mnths rent and deposit, but th
Q:Hi all
I have got a bit of a problem.
The letting agent that we used for a rental which finished in December last year did not give the address on the tenancy agreement of the landlord. The name is there, and having checked land reg, the landlords details are there.
When part of our deposit was withheld ( c.350 quid) due to what seems to be an admin error on behalf of the letting agents ( they seemed to think we had paid less than we did, we have letters to
Q:Four of my university classmates, and myself, are looking to rent a house together from September. Our options are really limited only to one letting agent as they have a bit of a monopoly on decent rentals in the area. The problem with them is their fees. Per person:
Arrangement fee: £90.00
Referencing fee: £65.00
This adds up to a total of £775 for the whole house!
I appreciate that they have to carry out credit checks on each of us but we are all si
Q:Hello there everyone, this is my first ever moneysavingexpert post!
Unfortunately, it?s not a happy one.
I am currently moving out of my rented accommodation along with one of my other house mates (I am one of three). We gave notice in writing direct to the agent nearly a month ago now and our contract has been rolling month to month since the fixed term ended on 23rd Feb 2008.
The letting agent is not going to return our £333.33 (each, it was £1000 in total) d
Q:I am currently in a rented house, which for various reasons, only my partner viewed prior to us moving in. As we went through the inventory, it was noted that the front door was damaged and rotting, and that the coal and bin shed doors had also rotted (to the point of falling off the hinges.) Since then, we have also noted that the toilet bowl and kitchen sink leak, which are in turn damaging cupboards and woodwork.
I have notified the letting agent, on numerous occasions, mainly t
