Gift from the familys house deposit [first house] [solicitor]

Q:Can anyone help please?

Me and my partner are signing the contract for our first house tomorrow but our solicitor has asked whether any of the money we are putting down as a deposit is a gift from family members or whether it is all our own savings?

It is mostly our own money but my partners Mum has given us a small amount which she doesn't want back but which my partner has said we will pay back once we can afford to.

    • Interest – Solicitor holding counter check, pending completion [solictor] [solicitor]

    Q:House purchase recently completed. However, prior to completion there was a delay of 5 weeks. A counter cheque was provided to solicitor 5 weeks prior to completion ie. before the delay occured. Therefore, the money came out of my building society account. I have chased both solicitor and building society for the interest i have lost.

    Independant solictor said – solicitor should have banked cheque within 2 working days. as per code of practice, and if no joy go to law society.

    Have had offer on house accepted, we have got back the qualified acceptance from seller which we were happy with. Mortgage offer from our lender is with solicitor and our deposit is ready to transfer to solicitor.

    Now what can we do. We have got a completition date of 26th November.

    Q:I would really appreciate some advice…

    I bought a leasehold garage at auction recently. When my solicitor checked the lease, he found that the garage lease was linked to a flat lease and that the garage could only be leased to the person owning the flat. The mortgage on the flat was also stated on the garage lease.

    Q:Hi,

    We have sold our home, and cannot find another we like due to lack of houses in our area.

    We are filling in the forms to start the sale of ours, with the view of renting.

    The Solicitor we were recommended, so far seems very good and professional, but I dont know a lot about them. We will be due over a ￡100k back and since they are not members of the FSA I am worried about it and am asking the question should I swap to a bigger well known solicitor?

    I currently live with my partner in her house and we have now decided to buy a place together. I've never owned a property but she owns hers and should come out with equity of approx £80K.

  • OMG, Exit fees on the sale price! [redemption fee] [solicitor]

    Q:Just had to have a rant……………I asked Fraggle, sorry , NORTHERN Rock for a redemption figure on my property last week, as completion was due 16/10. They gave me a figure of ￡155,000, saying that it wouldn't be exact. When it came through today, the day before completion, it was ￡159,600!!   • Item to be removed from the exchange acts eve [last thursday] [solicitor]

    Q:We were due to exchange last week and have been promised since then that we will exchange every day since. Still haven't. Anyway the problem was that on the eve of exchange last Thursday the sellers solicitor found something marital on the deeds that needed to be removed and arranged to complete on Monday when cleared. What was it likely to have been and could it still be holding up the exchange. The deeds are only in one persons name.

    Q:Hi Guys,

    Well, we have now paid our deposit, and signed our contract. The solicitor has both.
    How long can we expect to be waiting now? we wanted to be in next weekend ideally (Sat 26th). Is there any chance?

    The house IS occupied at the moment but they have no chain as are moving back to their parents.

    Any advice on a rough average would be handy?
