Q:Hi – just wondering if there is anywhere you can report dodgy letting agencies to, to prevent them trying the same scams on with other people?
Posted recently about Homes 4 U letting agency – they were trying to get us to pay a 're-sign fee' of £189.18 despite them not actually managing the property anymore. Luckily am not stupid and sorted it out with the landlord and new letting agency but worried that Homes 4 U may be trying this on with more naive renters and want to stop them!
Is there a body that oversees letting agencies?
Cheers
A:Not sure it's a police matter, more likely to be trading standards, but try these guys for advice where to complain:

A:You don't have to get your brother involved. Simply go to your local police station and don't mention your brother. They might not be interested but at least you've tried.

A:Cheers for the replies. Very helpful.
PCWilkins – someone else suggested the police but my brother – a policeman – lived in the property for 9 months and I don't want to get him involved in anything that might affect his job.
Jay7 – no they certainly wouldn't be registered with any kind of regulatory body – they'd be chucked out if they were! Thanks for the link – will post my disparatory comments on there.
A:Homes4u don't seem to be a member of ARLA, NAEA, or OEA.
You can review them on one of those review websites to warn other potential clients, e.g.: http://www.allagents.co.uk/homes4u/
A:Fraud is not just unscrupulous, it's criminal. Try the police.
A:ARLA, the NAEA & Ombudsman for Estate Agents.
