Q:With all the talk of moving up the property ladder, what are people's broad opinions of the various "rungs" of this mythical ladder, in terms of value, size etc of property?
Climb The Poker LadderA:For us it will hopefully be:
2 bedroom ex council on a not to bad estate. Actually the surrounding roads are great, 5 minutes down the road not so good though….
3 bedroom semi detached that needs a lot of work to make some money off, in probably the same sort of area.
3 bedroom semi in nice area that can be extended to become 4 bedroom place with big kitchen etc.
4 bedroom detached with nice garden etc.
Not too worried about the last one though…
Property Quotes that can make you richA:Here is that infamous pwobedy ladder in all its glory*
1) one bedroom ex council flat in crime ridden estate which is referred to by estate agents as a valuable opportunity to get on the ladder.
2) two bedroom house in depressing local authority with most properties still council owned: infestations of six year olds running around at midnight swearing and throwing stones at your car.
3) shoebox on barratts estate. The estate consists of approximately 6321 identical houses with wafer thin walls mostly containing people who are glad to no longer live on the local authority estate. The houses themselves will collapse just after the guarantee runs out. Six year old kids still run round at midnight however stone throwing is now minimal. This type of pwobedy is frequently marketed as an ideal “starter family home”
4) slightly bigger shoebox, hey it might even be semi detached this time. The six year old kids however have been replaced by their grown up equivalents so expect chavs galore.
5) The crème: a detached house which might not even be on a mind numbingly boring estate. The chavs have found their own one bedroom council flats by now.
* not necessarily representative of the pwobedy ladder
Property Tax Appeals – Property Tax ReductionA:Well, as someone who lives in the South and earns less than the average wage I'd be happy if I could afford a studio flat. I don't think about the rungs above that – they are too far out of my reach!
Investment Property SuccessA:This will be ours (god willing)
First time buyer (3 bed – could have stayed if we had needed too)
Town based detached large 3 bedroom (family home)
In future…..
Small rural 3 bedroomed cottage (For when children leave home)
I'd be quite happy with that scenario.
Darryl Kraemer’s Investment Property CalculatorA:Expensive
Ridiculous
Moronic
As stupid as a DVLA employee
David Beckham wages only
Soon to be revised
