What new suppliers when moving / in it? [first few days] [rented property]

Q:This is the first time I'll ever be moving to a . Now I know the new place will already have gas/electric/water suppliers so do I only pass them my details once Ive moved in or will it all be cut off by the time I move in? Im moving in literally days after the previous tenants move out.

Or do I have to find out who provides the services and let them know in advance of my moving day so Im not without electricity/gas/water for ? I'm not sure how it works, help!

Tips for Renting a Property
A:I didn't know when I moved either – but it seems you need to use the same provider initially as the previous owner & then switch if you wish.

There is a website somewhere that supplies info on who supplies your home but I'm not sure where it is at the moment – will come back if I can find it

Free Crash Cash – How To Buy And Rent Back Property With No Money Down
A:I've just moved and gone through this. I arranged to take my virgin media package from my previous address with me in advance.
As for electric / gas – I rang up my suppliers from my previous property with my final readings from my previous property and readings from new property just after I'd moved They don't currently supply my property and are arranging to take over from the previous supplier (I have no idea who that is). This process will take up to 28 days. So I will get:
final bill from previous property from my company
bill from company currently supplying new property for the short period before my company has taken over the supply
and then will be billed by my company.

Hope that helps.

A:Nothing will be "cut off" as they don't do that anymore, more effort than it's worth.

Do yourself a favour and agree the meter readings on the day you move in. Get the estate agent to check them with you. If you can, take a digital photograph with a newspaper or something.

Then phone various suppliers or just wait for the next bill to show up. Remember to put money aside in the mean time for the eventual bill! When it comes, ensure it's calculated from the right date and reading, if not phone and let them know the details.

How To Live Rent-Free!
A:Everything was on when we moved in, but I honestly don't know if it'd all been left on or whether the agency had arranged for it to be turned back on. Tbh we had a lot of trouble getting bills dated from before our tenancy, so I suspect that they'd never bothered informing the utilities when the last tenants moved out.

A:Thanks for the advice. So do they cut it all off when the last occupants move out or just suspend it so the bill can just go to the next person?

How to Get Your First Copywriting Client in 14 Days or Less
A:Just call the providers up and ask to switch to them. When we moved into our flat we weren't told who the suppliers were, and try as we might we couldn't find out. So we just switched. It took a while though, I think it was about two months before we got a gas/electricity bill. I'm moving soon and Powergen have said I can take my account with me, so see if you can do that (but check first that you're allowed to change supplier).

To change the phones, just call them too and say you want to change to them.

Rent to Own E-Books
A:Good question so I am bumping it
I moved into somewhere last Thu, previous tenant moved out 6 days before.

And I have NO idea who the services might be with…. and don't want to bother the landlord really to ask.

There's also a BT point here. Previous tenant had broadband. But I don't know the number so not sure what to do about getting broadband … I'd prefer Virgin to BT broadband (cheap/no contract with V I believe) … so not sure who to call and say what to.
